The history tour:During this tour, the museum's collections give you an insight into the long history of Central Africa. Although the walls of the museum radiate colonization, the story begins much earlier. A fossil tooth of a hominid reveals the oldest presence of our ancestors on the African continent, millions of years ago. The ever-expanding human activities in this region are richly illustrated by utensils, art objects, weapons and other (paleo)archaeological finds. An experienced guide will introduce you to some of the most powerful Central African kingdoms using this impressive collection, and will discuss the encounters and later trade relations between African and European rulers. The international slave trade is central to this. The colonial period will then be discussed in detail, with current scientific and social insights being shared.
